Connecting Hearts to God
Suzan Jerome
A Simple Abiding

I have been reflecting afresh on the struggle we experience getting into a place of abiding with the Lord in the first place, and staying there once we have glimpsed it. Despite the fact that it is our greatest joy and safety, I am constantly aware of the difficulty of staying there myself, and I hear that others experience the same battle.

A friend and ministry colleague of mine, Michael Brown, and I have been discussing a group we are planning to start in April. Michael and his wife Torie have been involved with this ministry for the last several years and the idea of a group we are calling "One Accord" has emerged from our association. Michael is gifted prophetically, frequently bringing very incisive words that cut through much complexity and help us locate our heart condition so we can bring it to the Lord for healing and reconciling. I have gathered a rather extensive storehouse that relates to the causes for separation from the Lord and how to interrupt and clear them. We will combine these giftings in order to establish a forum where people can come to deepen their relationship with the Lord, experience whatever healing is needed, clarify their calling, and be empowered to walk in it with Him.

Because everything about this venture needs prayer covering, I wrote to a number of people asking them to hold it in prayer. In the responses to that message I discovered that a number of people who once were in a strong position with the Lord had gotten dislodged and were not in a condition to pray very fervently until they were gathered up and reconnected themselves. This is the story of our lives in the Lord, I suppose, but it saddened me uniquely this time, and I began to pray about that phenomenon of "here today, gone tomorrow," asking the Lord very pointedly about it. What follows is what I wrote in my journal during that prayer time. It was helpful to me, and I find that it has clarified the struggle for me considerably. I hope you find it encouraging and strengthening as well.

Lord, I’m hearing from some people we have asked to pray, who have known You, have known how to connect with You, and yet are honestly saying that they are not talking to You much now. What is that? Why don’t we guard our lives in You more diligently, Lord?

It seems we hear or attempt to listen about certain things. We do not get through to the place of enjoying being with You. The motivation is not having a time apart with You for sharing our heart and being focused, gathered into Your purposes and perspective, for its own sake. So if we are not pressed to pray, we tend not to come. Instead, we go about our business, thinking the last revelation will sustain, and somewhat enjoying not being under "scrutiny."

Wow, Lord, that is the saddest thing I have ever heard. I’m sure it is true, however, as I have seen it over and over again, and experienced it myself.

Those who love being with Me

cannot wait for those times that are

set apart with Me to feast at My table,

though they have no idea what will be served that day,

except that it is selected by Me from

a host of good things—regardless

of the circumstances around them.

One Accord is for the purpose of getting

more people into the condition of being

devoted to Me personally, not just

appealing to Me to get something to

happen or stop happening.

I marvel at a number of things, Lord. I marvel at what a glorious place You invite us into with You "for its own sake." I marvel at how few of us seem to enjoy it regularly or simply. I marvel at the complexity and fierceness of the obstacles that unite together to prevent us from living here. I marvel at how blind we are to those obstacles and their ways and motives for working against simplicity of devotion to You. I marvel at all the generations the church has been functioning and we still do not know how to get here and stay here, when it is our only safety against being ravaged. I marvel at how much is lost because we do not know the way, or will not take it.

This is the hub of the message. All the clearing and cleansing and healing lead to a place of abiding fellowship, and enjoying our constant lifeline.

A Website Version: Our One Accord meetings will begin in early April, and meet out in the Murrieta Valley. However, we have a plan to put the recorded messages and words that come forth in ministry on the website, so that people who are not able to come can participate. They will also be helpful for people who do come but want to hear what they heard again. Sometimes the Lord says more than we can take in at the moment! We are excited about this new ministry expression, which comes together as a result of a work the Lord has been doing for many years. You will no doubt be hearing more about it as it proceeds. In the meantime, if the Lord prompts any of you to pray for us, please agree with Him vigorously!

Love in Jesus,

Suzan
